What is the Open Source Lab?
The Oregon State University Open Source Lab is the home of growing, high-impact open source communities. Its world-class hosting services enable the Linux operating system, Apache web server, the Drupal content management system and over 50 other leading open source software projects to collaborate with contributors and distribute software to millions of users globally. Through custom software development, vendor partnerships and industry events like the Government Open Source Conference (GOSCON), the Lab's staff and students encourage open source adoption in education, government, health care and other sectors.
 What is Open Source Software?
"Open source" means that the building blocks for a program are freely available to use, modify, and improve. This provides for rapid software development by contributors worldwide, and the resulting program is available for anyone to use, anywhere, free of charge.

Open Source is all about contributions.
Countless numbers of developers are all giving of their time and talents to code, document, test, design, and deliver software so that the end user may benefit from it. The Open Source Lab is here to contribute resources to the community, allowing developers to focus on what they do best rather than having to spend time worrying about system resources and hosting. To continue operating, we need your contributions as well.

Rackathon 8/08/06
Greetings! We are looking for individuals to help sponsor the OSL in our new fundraising campaign. However, this is a campaign like no other. When you make a donation to the OSL, we will stick your name on one of our racks as our own way of saying "Thanks!". These racks host some of the top names in open source software. You can see a list of the projects you are supporting to the right of this page or by visiting our clients page.

For just a $20 donation to help sponsor our operations, we will put your name on a rack in 10pt. font for a year! You can also find your name listed on our site here.

Video Bomb Video Bomb (videobomb.com) is a social site for ranking and bookmarking favorite videos from all sources on the Internet. The site is akin to the popular digg.com site, but for videos. Users rank each video submission by "bombing" them. Video submissions come from various sources of viral videos (YouTube, Google Video, etc.).

The site is written and operated by the Participatory Culture Foundation, hosted here at the OSL. The PCF also provides a powerful cross-platform video application called Democracy. This video platform ties in to the Video Bomb website, allowing you to view and bomb the incoming videos straight from the application. Video Bomb has grown to over 150,000 unique visitors a month since it's launch in February. Check them out today!
